Covenant Groups
2006-2007

Q. What is a Covenant Group?
A Covenant Group is a small group of typically 4-15 people who have covenanted together to meet regularly so that they might encourage one another in their relationships with Christ and with each other.

Q. Why are Covenant Groups important?
As Calvary has grown over the years, it has become impossible for individuals to maintain close, meaningful relationships with all other members. Covenant Groups enable people to establish more intimate relationships with a smaller segment of the congregation, thereby providing increased opportunities for fellowship, service, and growth in Christ.

Q. What type of commitment is required?
Each Covenant Group will individually determine the type of commitment required of its mem- bers. Typical decisions to be determined mutually by Covenant group members would be: how often to meet, whether to include singing/prayer/study time, outside study requirements, what type of social activities to have, whether or not to accept new members, etc.

If you’d like to join an existing group, speak to the leader listed below.

Groups Available This Fall

Fox Hill Group - Meets weekly on Wednesday at 7:30 at the Bradley's in the Fox Hill area of Hampton. The first meeting will be on September 14th. This will begin with a covered dish dinner and a time of prayer. Time of this first meeting will be 6:45pm. A topic for study for the fall and winter months will be decided upon at this first meeting. Each meeting usually consists of about 30 minutes of prayer time, followed by 45 minutes of study and then 15 minutes or more of dessert and fellowship. Babysitting/child care is not provided. David Bailey will lead.

Yorktown Covenant Group - Meets every other Friday evening from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. Location will revolve among a couple homes in the general Yorktown area. The study will utilize "War of Words: Getting to the Heart of Your Communication Struggles," by Paul David Tripp. Speak to Ed or Margie Kline for more information.

Hidenwood Group - meets twice a month on Wednesday evenings, at various homes in Newport News and York County. This Fall's topic will be determined at the first meeting, to be held on Wednesday, September 14th at 7 PM, meeting at Dave and Julie Mericle's home. Please see or call Dave Mericle with any questions.

SAMS (Singles and Marrieds) Covenant Group - This group is currently meeting weekly on Wednesdays at the Snapps' home in the Hidenwood area from 7:00 - 9:00pm. Their new topic of study will be determined in mid-September. Contact Byron Snapp for more information.

New Groups - Additional Covenant Groups are always welcome. Perhaps you live in a geographic area that doesn’t have a group nearby, or perhaps there’s a topic you would like to study. If interested in starting a new group, speak with Bill Griffin, Pete Hurst, or Byron Snapp.

Acts 2:42,47b: “And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to
prayer, ...” “And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
