Aug 29 - Sep 1 Pastor Hurst on vacation. Sep 5 9:30 A.M. Worship Service will be held as usual. No Sunday School or Evening Gathering. Sep 5 Nursery Workers Needed Workers are needed during the morning worship at CRPC. Please contact Paula Erichsen if you are able to help. Sep 3-5 Labor Day Retreat – Please place your retreat forms with your check in the box in the Commons as soon as possible. The Krolls need to get a count for food, etc. Please let them know if you plan to come, but did not put your registration form in yet. Many helpers will be needed for children’s classes, craft times, and nursery. Sign up sheet is in the Commons. Please think about how you can help out this year. More details will follow in the coming weeks. Sep 8 Women in the Church Bible Study – Tuesday night women's Bible study is continuing it's study of the book The Praying Life by Paul Miller. We'll be discussing Part 3 and please feel free to join us as it's easy to jump right in. We meet the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the conference room. See you September 7th! Sep 8 Ladies Bible Study Begins – If you would like to attend this study that will begin Wednesday, Sept 8 please contact Byron by the end of August. We will need a minimum of seven who plan to attend in order to have the class. The planned topic for study is “Themes from Proverbs”. Sep 12 Service & Time Changes – Beginning the second Sunday in September, members will be allowed to make announcements before morning worship that didi not get printed in the bulletin or emphasize and elaborate on any which did. TIME CHANGE - Worship: 9:30 - 10:55am, Sunday School: 11:15 am - noon. Sep 12 New Adult Sunday School Classes Begin – EXODUS focuses on the children of Israel’s deliverance from slavery in Egypt. This deliverance was by God’s hand. It points to a far greater deliverance that Jesus Christ accomplished in His death and resurrection. Byron Snapp will teach Exodus in the auditorium. A PRAYING LIFE – by Paul Miller will be used to study the subject of prayer. Books for the course are $10 and workbooks $5. Couples may share. Space is limited; please contact Pete Hurst, who will be teaching this course, if you would like to attend. CALVIN’S INSTITUTES – An overview of Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion, led by Joe Sawanowich, wraps up this quarter by examining selections from Books III & IV. The class will meet in the Fellowship Hall Sep 12 Fall Picnic – This will be at Sandy Bottom Nature Park. We have reserved the 3 shelters by the playground from 2:00 p.m. to sunset (first shelters seen from Hampton Rds Center Pkwy entrance-ample parking in front of shelters). Whether you want to go straight from Sunday school or would prefer to go home and change, gather food or allow for naps for small children-we would like to meet to eat at the shelters by 4:00 p.m. Please bring a salad/veg and a dessert to share and lawn chairs. The Lord's Supper will be served the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of September. New Trash Disposal Location -- Please put general trash in the new dumpster. GRAY TRASH BINS are for recyclable items only. Bookkeeper Position – The church is seeking a qualified bookkeeper to perform accounting services for the church and its ministries. This is a part-time position and will involve the use of a computerized bookkeeping system, accounts payables, payroll, payroll tax deposits and reports, and financial reports for the officers. If you are interested in applying for the position, please place a copy of your resume in the deacon’s box in the office. The resume should set forth the amount and type of experience you have had with computerized bookkeeping, payroll and payroll taxes. Position Open at Calvary Classical School -- CCS is accepting applications for a full-time elementary teacher. This position requires a bachelor’s degree, devotion to God, and love for children. An understanding of classical Christian education or a strong desire to be trained in the classical approach to education is also needed. Support/Counseling for Men Struggling with Sexual Sin – “Living in Freedom Everyday.” Cost is $15 a week plus $25 for the cost of the workbook. The group is led by Brent Vallee, M.A., a Registered Mental Health Resident with the state of Virginia and runs in eight week cycles. Summer Adult Sunday School Classes – An Overview of The Institutes of the Christian Religion, led by Joe Sawanowich, continues in the fellowship hall. In the auditorium, Ed Kline will be moderating a Sproul video series entitled Themes from Hebrews. No other book in the Bible explains the drama of redemption like the book of Hebrews. Dr. Sproul carefully examines this complex book’s major themes. The 2010 PCA Global Missions Conference will be held in Chattanooga, TN, November 5-7. Brochures are available in the Commons. Nehemiah's Nook – CRPC partners with By Grace Community Church to serve at Nehemiah's Nook, a ministry of Calvary Revival Church, in downtown Newport News on the second Saturday of each month. This is a ministry to homeless in Newport News. Breakfast is prepared and served following a short service that includes music and a speaker. Seasonal clothing and toiletries needed. A box will be placed in the Commons to collect donated items. For more information contact Dale Gray or Dave Mericle. Riverside Convalescent Center – On the first Sunday of each month, there is an opportunity for service with our church's monthly worship service at the Riverside Convalescent Center in Newport News.
